Ms. Marshall regarded him gimlet-eyed. “You’re the only one who does,” she said.
Mr. Warburton, a fashion stylist, remained unflappable. Gliding to a vitrine filled with bangles, he pulled out a silvery chain he thought would animate Ms. Marshall’s somber outfit. “I like long chains,” he said encouragingly.
